About Kim

Kim Branch is a nationally recognized musician and music educator located in the Chicagoland area. She has performed with the likes of Patrice Rushen, Terri- Lynn Carrington, Wycliffe Gordon, Solange Knowles and many more. Kim frequently performs for a variety of events such as Corporate engagements, Festivals, and celebrations.

Ms. Branch has served as a guest speaker, clinician, and adjudicator and has traveled across the United States working with musical ensembles from middle school to college and universities.

Born in South Florida, Kim Branch started her musical journey at a very young age singing in a variety of churches. She then fell in love with the trumpet and began performing in high school and college. Coming from a family of musicians and educators, Ms. Branch has earned a bachelor’s in jazz studies as well as a bachelors in music education from Northern Illinois University where she has studied under professor Ron Carter, Professor Art Davis, Professor Willie Pickens, and many more. She currently serves as Director of Bands at Edison Middle School in Champaign, IL where she oversees and directs numerous ensembles and combos.

The top jazz ensemble has received numerous accolades and awards including 1st place at the 2016 and 2017 Purdue Jazz festival and 1st place at the Eastern Illinois Jazz Festival. The Edison Middle School Jazz Ensemble has also performed at the 70th Annual Midwest Clinic at McCormick Place in Chicago as well as the 2017 Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria. Kimberly has served at many summer camps including the Dillard Center for the Arts Jazz camp and the NIU summer jazz camp from 2012-2019 as a vocal instructor and trumpet clinician. Kimberly has toured with the NIU Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Prof. Ron Carter and Prof. Reggie Thomas for a number of years hosting trumpet clinics and other related events.

In 2020, Kim joined Carter’s Jazz Clinics where she has hosted many virtual events for music lovers and educators across the world. From 2019 to 2020, Kim Branch was selected as a Geri Allen Fellow and has performed with the Gathering Orchestra under the direction of Professor Rodney Whitacker.

Along with being a performing musician, director, and adjudicator, Ms. Branch has been a strong advocate for music education earning the 2020 Advocacy in Action Award from Music for All. Ms. Branch’s efforts have paved the way for many young musicians to experience the arts in a way that uplifts her students and community, bringing in a number of world- renowned artists to her school and district.
